Yonder
Yonder was my first foray into slightly figurative generative art. Part of my inspiration for Winds was some of Van Goghs paintings and I decided to continue to pursue this painterly inspiration, though with an eye towards traditional Japanese paintings this time.
Yonder continued my exploration of flow lines, but rather than having the flows intersect, they were now layered and scaled in a fashion that resembled waves or mountains.
Another aspect I added, with a nod to the Japanese inspiration, was the use of a watercolor-like rendering that I had developed some years earlier but never found good use for. The technique is an extension of an approach Tyler Hobbs had described that I had always enjoyed for its simplicity. My version included changes to both the deformation process as well as the texturing, but the core idea of layering distorted polygons is fully owed to Tyler.
At this point in time I was deep in the Hic et Nunc community and Yonder really made a splash there. The community feeling of the space also resulted in my first collaboration with the wonderful Lionel Radisson (Makio135):
Yonder continued my practice of creating twin pieces. One for print and one for NFTs
