Storms
While many of my inspirations are somewhat vague and subtle, this was not the case with Storms. It is quite literally a creative response to seeing photos of Jupiter taken by the Juno space probe.
It was not an attempt to recreate the swirls of the Jupiter surface in any realistic way. Rather, I saw it as a way to experiment with more subtle shaping and let distortion of the background be a key element in the composition.
I ended up being more driven by the physical nature of flow being disrupted, and the last iterations of the series explore more the visual result of streams being disrupted by an object. Algorithmically, this is not what is going on, but I have always found joy in approximating the result of phenomena through completely different processes.
Storms was a short-lived series. I found a better way to create the effect I was after with Prism, though that series had a very different ambiance due to it’s palette.
